The Wicked King by Holly Black won the Young Adult (YA) Fantasy category in 2019.

The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black won the YA Fantasy category in 2020.

Will Holly Black’s book win the YA Fantasy and Science Fiction (SFF) category in 2021?

That’s the question, and most readers are assuming the answer is yes. Veronica Roth won the first three years of the Goodreads Choice Awards in this category with her Divergent series (2011–2013), and Sarah J. Maas won the award from 2015–2018. This year, if Holly Black wins again, she’ll be the third author to win the same category three years in a row. Except for Cassandra Clare (2014), Roth, Maas, and Black have been the only authors to win in this category.

Leigh Bardough, not to be discredited, has won the Fantasy category before with Ninth House (2019).

I created the image above to show you my top ten predictions, and I believe Black will win, possibly falling into a groupthink trap here. Unlike in my fiction and fantasy predictions, which I’ve already published, I’m not going to talk about all twenty nominations. Instead, I will go over the top ten, counting down to the books I think…
