2021 Goodreads Choice Awards — Fantasy Predictions
20 nominations, only one will win
The discussion surrounding the fantasy category in the Goodreads Choice Awards is one of surrender. Everyone knows what book is going to win. In my fiction predictions, I mentioned that these awards are a popularity contest, and none of the authors in this category boast the same fan following as Sarah J. Maas.
Before I give you the list of nominees, I’ll tell you who the top three will be:
- A Court of Silver Flames, Sarah J. Maas with 197,514 ratings and 4.39 average stars)
- The Crown of Gilded Bones, Jennifer L. Armentrout with 86,677 ratings and 4.25 average stars
- Under the Whispering Door, TJ Klune with 20,236 ratings and 4.32 average stars
*Ariadne has the potential to upset Klune for third place, as it has more ratings and Greek mythology retellings are hot right now, but I don’t think it will
Twelve of the twenty books on this list don’t have over 10,000 ratings, and four of the remaining eight don’t have more than 20,000. Last year, the vote total was 423,396 and House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas won with 95,084 votes. It almost lost to The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V. E.
