The Ups and Downs of Eating Local in June
Month 1 – reflection and what’s next
June turned out to be an incredibly busy month. The first weekend I had a full day yoga festival and then the Gutsy Walk with my family. The second weekend was my cousin’s baby shower followed by Father’s Day the next weekend. I had another yoga festival the fourth weekend, and wrapped the month up with a trip to visit my friend in Kingston and a football game with my family. I drove home at least once every single weekend.
And this doesn’t consider the busyness at work.
I already discussed how I was feeling burnt out, or at least of the verge of burning out, in my mid-month check-in. I broke down how I overspent, especially on takeout, and bought way more than 7 pantry items. At least a third of the pantry items were not made in Ontario or Canada, but I bought one item at one store that was a chain (Costco).
I definitely had one of those months where I overspent and shrugged it off.
For the reasons that it’s easier to shop and eat local in Canada during the summer, it’s also so much harder to stay on budget. There are so many great events and interesting products available.
