June Mid-Month Update on Eating Local Challenge

Kicking off the month in a funk and spending way more than budgeted on takeout

As an open and honest person, I have to admit that I started June off by teetering on the precipe of burnout. I was skipping meals, not sleeping well, and relying heavily on takeout. I gave in to the fact that if I actually wanted to eat something, I’d pay the price to have it arrive at my door. Otherwise, the likelihood of just not eating after work was high.

Now, as I’m on the up and up, I’ve started cooking again. However, I still turn to the food that I really, really want. My wants have included warm potato salad, baked oatmeal bars, and spicy soba noodles. All required ingredients that I didn’t already have in my pantry. More on the pantry challenge (i.e., five items or less and only from local grocery stores) below.

I also failed miserably at not buying things from the cafeteria when I simultaneously hit the stress wall and ran out of coffee pods. Three coffees, a cookie, and a scone were purchased in the first half of the month. (My resolve to not buy muffins remains strong, even though they’re the cheapest sugar-filled treat at work.) For the second half of the month, I’m recommitting to not buying anything at work.
