How to Cope with Going from 100 to 0 — i.e., Living through a Lockdown

The psychological effect of putting your life on pause

I’m angry.

There I said it. I’ve been bottling it up for the past few weeks, but it’s out now. I’m frustrated with everything, and everyone is irritating me.

The best way I can describe it is with a car metaphor of all things. Do you know how cars are measured by how many seconds it takes them to go from 0 kph to 100 kph? Well, imagine you’re a car, speeding down a road at 100 kph and then you hit a concrete wall. You come to screeching halt, a standstill. You’re just stuck.

Well, if you told me three months ago that I’d wake up one morning and have nothing to do, and that this would happen soon, I would have laughed out loud.

I was a university student in my last year. It was the final few weeks of class. I had so much to do. I couldn’t imagine living a life where I had nothing to do.

I’m sure many of you feel the same.

Perhaps the pandemic has also brought you to slamming stop, one you couldn’t avoid or go around.

I’m used to having a lot to do. I’ve always been the kind of person who thrives on having a lot to do. This is no exaggeration.
