First I said I wouldn’t teach. Then I said I’d never teach online.

Well, I’ve been teaching for a year now and just paid for my first Zoom subscription.

After holding space for dozens of individuals, I’m being called to teach more. To expand my audience. I’ve realized I can only reach so many people in person, and some people prefer practicing from the comfort of their own homes.

In person, I’ve had the pleasure of teaching men and women, young and old, from a variety of backgrounds with varying needs and wants. Knee injuries. Back injuries. Head injuries. Overwhelm. Anxiety. Restlessness.

People want to be more flexible, stronger, and calmer. They want to feel better, sleep better, and experience less pain. Through personal practice, I’ve learned that yoga can help with all these things. By not sharing – even though connecting through a screen is not the same as connecting in person – I feel like I’m shoving part of myself deep down, hiding my passion for teaching and sharing yoga.

For the month of December, I’m turning my attention to slowing down and coping with difficult times. Creating gentle and slow practices to counter the news, holiday season, and darker days of the year.

Gentle Hatha with somatic movements. Yin and restorative. All with elements of pranayama (breath work), meditation, and yoga Nidra. The focus is reconnecting with the body, releasing tension, and finding calm as we approach the new year.

Whether it’s yoga, or a different self-care practice that you connect with, I hope you can find some time for yourself this holiday season. And if there’s something you’ve been too afraid to do, pushing off, and putting to the side, I hope you decide to take the leap like I have.

I’ll share the anticipated themes here:

December 2nd – Arriving

Intention is reconnecting with the body, and working on the mind-body connection.

December 9th – Awareness

Intention is listening to the body and respecting how you arrive on the mat.

December 16th – Grounding

Intention is slowing down and being present with a more yin and restorative inspired practice.

December 23rd – Hold to Let Go

Intention is exploring tension in the body and finding ease or release in these spaces.

December 30th – Acceptance

Intention is bringing awareness to our thoughts and practicing acknowledgement while accepting how we arrive on the mat might look different day-to-day.

If you’d like to join, classes are 75-minutes at 6 pm EST on Mondays through the month of December. Scheduling is through Acuity at yogawithkaitlyn.as.me. Use code ‘MEDIUM’ to get a free class.
