The word summer is synonymous with vacation; hot weather, suntans, beach or cottage getaways also come to mind. Whether or not you‘re travelling somewhere this summer, these three books will take you places—one for each hot month of the year here in the Northern Hemisphere. So even if all you have planned is a staycation, you can treat yourself to a summer read.

1. Book Lovers by Emily Henry

Henry’s newest contemporary romance follows literary agent Nora Stephens on a trip to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, with her little sister Libby. She continuously runs into Charlie Lastra, an editor from the city.

It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute. — Emily Henry

As someone from a small town, this book is number one on my list. Yes, you can vacation in small towns, and yes, low-key vacations are still fun and maybe more relaxing. Plus, it has a bookish theme; you can’t go wrong.

2. Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan
