5 Fashion Trends to Add to Your Closet This Spring and Summer

There’s a benefit to working in retail, and that’s the fact that I see it first. I unpack the boxes, unwrap the clothes, and see the glorious new pieces gracing us this season. And I’ll tell you right now that they’re white, linen, and thankfully, long.

Goodbye cropped styles, supermini dresses, and short pants. Hello midis, tunics, and yes, even ankle-length styles. But don’t worry if you like to show a little skin, many pieces are see-through, backless, and cut-outs appear to be back in style. Plus, after two years of locked away fashion (i.e., staying home and not going out), this season’s clothes are fun but comfortable. Take your wardrobe from your couch to the streets and turn some heads. Take advantage of the fact that being out and about is now possible. Don’t be shocked when many choose to stand out instead of blending in.

Fashion should be fun, and these five styles can be made neutral and classic or bold and revolutionary.

1. Platform Sandals

If you get one item on this list, make it a platform sandal, they’re everywhere and easy-going. You can add as little or as much height as you please. The footbed in some of these resembles your favourite Birkenstocks but way chicer. Take these Steve Madden ones, for example. Or, because not everyone likes sandals, these platform Toms are subtly elevated and incredibly comfortable. You could choose classic and neutral, like this style from Bueno, or bold and remarkable, like these 3 1/4” high ones by Marc Fisher. The options are truly endless, but for a shoe worthy of a capsule wardrobe, I’d opt for something white that’s comfortable to walk in and would look good with your favourite jeans, jean shorts, or a summer dress.

2. Wide-leg Pants

Popular last year, the wide-leg pants trend is here to stay for spring and summer. Choose your favourite rise and preferred length, and you’ll rock this trend all season long.
